Moon Water

Moon water is simple to prepare, yet it is a very powerful tool in magick. Simply put, moon water is water that is charged by the moon; this can be done at any moon phase, depending on your intention. The New Moon is a period of rebirth, new beginnings, and focusing on the future. The Waxing Crescent Moon is a time of quieting the mind, body, and spirit. The First Quarter Moon is a time for inner work, concentration, and bolstering confidence. The Waxing Gibbous Moon calls us to relax our minds and bodies. The Full Moon is an extremely powerful time of releasing what no longer serves us. Personally, I always use Full Moon water in my workings because of the amplification properties, but please do what works best for you.

To make moon water:

Gather a clean glass container and smudge it; I use everything from jars to cruets, to empty wine bottles. Fill the container with purified or spring water and place it under the moonlight (either outside or in a windowsill) for several hours. Be sure to bring the container inside before sunrise.

Once you have your moon water, the ways it can be used are endless. I charge several containers of water each month and use the water for things such as cleansing sprays, floor cleaners, watering plants, making tea, baths, etc. Pro tip: if you’re going to consume the water, be sure to store it in the refrigerator and drink it within a day or two. I recommend using separate containers for moon water that will be consumed versus that which will be stored and used for long periods of time.

Does it work? Very well! This spring, someone accidentally stepped on some wildflower seedlings I’d started in our garden, trampling them down to almost nothing. I worked a spell for peace and protection for the seedlings and gave them a big drink of moon water. Now they are growing so fast and tall that I’ll likely need to thin them.

If you choose to add moon water into your practice, I think you will be very happy with the results.

Blessed be.
