Litha

Litha is the Summer Solstice, the longest day and the shortest night. It is directly opposite of Yule, which is the shortest day and the longest night. Litha is one of the eight Wiccan Sabbats, and it is a celebration of the sun and its return to fullness. This year, in the northern hemisphere, it will be celebrated on June 20.

One way I enjoy celebrating this Sabbat is by setting up a yellow or orange candle next to an offering bowl that’s filled with sunflower seeds and the bloom of one sunflower. After my ritual, I place the sunflower and seeds for wildlife and birds to enjoy.

At this time, we celebrate the noon of summer. It is a time for forgetting past cares and for purification. On the night of Midsummer, we attune with the longest day and honor the unending cycles brought to us by the sun.

I wish all of you a very blessed Summer Solstice!
